Resin Bound Driveways

Before a resin drive is quoted for your Kempston Hardwick home, the free survey looks closely at what is underneath, since the existing surface may be reusable. A light scattering of fine grit across the top can add grip on a slope or where cars turn, without changing the colour of the finish.

Free design ideas on aggregate blends and border colours are available to homes in Kempston Hardwick, as well as Bedford, Ampthill and Putnoe, so you can see the options before deciding.

Resin Driveways: How It Works

How Resin Bound Is Laid

Resin bound installation follows a clear order, and the weather on the day plays a part in when the mix goes down.

1

Survey & Colour Choice

The existing surface is checked, the area is measured, and you compare aggregate blends to settle on a colour for the drive.

2

Preparing the Base

Any failed surface is removed and a porous base is laid, or the existing one is cleaned and repaired, with edging fixed around it.

3

Mixing & Trowelling

Resin and dry aggregate are mixed in batches and spread to an even depth, then trowelled smooth before the mix starts to set.

4

Curing & Handover

The surface is left to cure before any traffic goes on it. We review the completed work with you and confirm everything has been done as agreed.

Resin Driveways FAQs

Resin Driveways FAQs in Kempston Hardwick

Do You Lay Resin Bound Driveways in Kempston Hardwick?

Yes. Kempston Hardwick is part of the area served from Hookscross, near Stevenage, for resin bound drives. At a free site survey the existing surface is assessed, you pick a colour from the free design suggestions, and a written quote follows that you can accept or turn down as you wish.

Can You Tell If My Kempston Hardwick Drive Can Take a Resin Overlay?

Photos of the drive can often give a first view, as they show cracks, sunken areas and the state of the edges. The free site survey then confirms it, checking whether the tarmac or concrete is firm enough to keep or whether a new porous base is the better route for your drive.

What Is the Difference Between Resin Bound & Resin Bonded?

Resin bound mixes the stones into the resin before laying, giving a smooth, porous surface with no loose gravel. Resin bonded spreads resin on the base first and scatters stones over it, leaving a rougher texture that is not porous and can shed loose stones as it ages.

Can Resin Bound Go Over My Existing Tarmac?

Often, yes, if the tarmac is sound, reasonably level and free of deep cracks or soft spots. Cracks in the old layer can show through the resin later, so a failing surface is better replaced with a new base. Looking at the drive in person shows which applies to yours.

How Long Before I Can Park on a New Resin Drive?

Resin needs time to cure before it can take the weight of a car, and the wait depends mainly on temperature, as the mix sets faster in warm weather and slower in cool conditions. You will be told when the surface is ready for foot traffic and when it is safe to drive on.

Does Resin Bound Fade or Turn Yellow?

UV-stable resin is designed to stay clear in sunlight, which matters most with lighter aggregates. Resins without UV stability can yellow, so it is worth asking which type a quote includes. The natural stone colours themselves stay much the same, though any surface gathers some dirt in use.
