New Patios & Patio Cleaning

A patio at your St Albans home should suit the furniture you own and sit where the garden catches the evening sun. Levels are worked out from the damp-proof course, keeping the finished surface far enough below it that splashback from heavy rain stays off the house wall.

Homeowners in St Albans, as well as Harpenden, Hemel Hempstead and Hatfield, can share pictures of the area on WhatsApp before any visit and get an honest early view of whether cleaning or a new patio makes more sense.

Patios: How It Works

How Patio Paving Works

Every garden is different, but most patio projects move through the same broad stages.

1

Survey & Ideas

A visit to measure the space, check levels and look at how you use the garden, followed by layout and stone suggestions.

2

Written Quote

A clear, no-obligation quote setting out the area, the stone, the base and anything else agreed, so you can compare it fairly.

3

Preparation & Laying

The old surface comes up, the new base goes down and is compacted, then the paving is laid to falls and pointed.

4

Final Check

The area is cleaned and swept. We review the completed work with you and confirm everything has been done as agreed.

Patios FAQs

Patios FAQs in St Albans

Do You Lay New Patios in St Albans?

Yes. St Albans is one of the areas the business covers, along with Harpenden, Hemel Hempstead and Hatfield. New patios in porcelain, sandstone, granite or concrete flags can all be quoted, and the first visit is a free survey to measure up and check the levels.

Can You Clean an Existing Patio in St Albans?

Yes. Patio cleaning is offered in St Albans alongside new installations. A clean suits stone that is sound but stained or green; if slabs rock or have sunk across a wide area, relaying is usually the better spend. Photos sent on WhatsApp give a first opinion before anyone visits.

Do I Need Planning Permission for a Patio?

Most ground-level patios in a back garden fall under permitted development, so no application is needed. Raised platforms, listed homes and properties in a conservation area can be different, and paving a front garden has its own rules about where rainwater goes. If in doubt, check with your local council's planning team before work starts.

Which Patio Service Do I Need?

If the stone is sound but dirty or green, cleaning is usually enough. If slabs rock, sink or crack across a large area, relaying or a new patio makes more sense. A steep garden may need a retaining wall first, and changes in level often call for steps. The survey will point you to the right option.

Can a Patio, Path & Retaining Wall Be Done Together?

Yes. Planning them as one job means the levels all agree, so the patio meets the path, the steps land where they should and any wall holding back soil sits at the right height. It also avoids lifting finished work later to fit something new in alongside it.

What Affects the Cost of Patio Paving?

The main factors are the size of the area, the stone you choose, how much old surface has to come up, how deep the dig needs to be and how easy the access is. Steps, curves and retaining walls add work. A written quote after the survey breaks these down so you can see where the cost sits.
